Rotella’s interest in unconventional materials is revealed in his sculptural production: taking cue from everyday objects he bought at the flea market in Rome, i.e. reels, hooks, wicker baskets, fabrics, cans, he realized some assemblages and ready - made such as Petit Monument à Rotella (1961).
Over the years of his long career, he experimented on three-dimensionality: in the Seventies he created the “plastiforme”, plasticized sheets of paper, creased and put in a plexiglass case; during the Nineties he made the “sculture-architetture”, large décollages applied onto deformed metal sheets; then, in 1990 he realized the Replicanti in ceramic.
